Can B.Sc Optometry Candidates Apply in BFUHS Ophthalmic Officer 2026? This is one of the most common questions we're getting about this recruitment, so let's be direct about it. The official notification specifically mentions the qualification as "Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistant from a recognized university or institution." It does not explicitly list B.Sc Optometry as an alternate or equivalent qualification in this advertisement. In many other state recruitments, B.Sc Optometry has been accepted as an equivalent or higher qualification to Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistant/Optometry, since the curriculum overlaps and B.Sc Optometry is a higher-level degree in the same field. However, since this specific BFUHS notification does not clarify equivalence, we strongly recommend that B.Sc Optometry candidates contact BFUHS directly (via the official website or helpline) or wait for an official clarification/corrigendum before assuming eligibility. Do not rely solely on general assumptions — apply only after confirming, since misrepresenting eligibility can lead to cancellation of candidature at any stage, even after selection. . . Category-Wise Seat Allocation- BFUHS Ophthalmic Officer 2026 Here is the official bifurcation of the 17 posts: Sr. No.CategoryNo. of Posts2EWS (F)23SC (M&B)17ESM (SC) (M&B)48ESM (SC) (R&O)39ESM (BC)110Sportsman (G) (F)111Sportsman (SC) (M&B)112Handicapped213Handicapped (F)2—Total17 Important observation: Notice that there is no Unreserved/General (UR) category post in this bifurcation. Every single vacancy falls under a reserved category — EWS, SC, Ex-Servicemen (ESM), BC, Sportsperson, or Handicapped quota. This has a direct impact on who can realistically apply, which we explain below. . . Can Candidates From Other States Apply in BFUHS Ophthalmic Officer 2026? Technically, BFUHS recruitment notifications generally allow candidates from other states to apply against Unreserved (UR/General) posts, since UR posts don't carry Punjab-specific domicile restrictions in the same way reserved categories do. However, in this particular recruitment, there is no UR/General post available — all 17 posts are distributed among reserved categories (EWS, SC, ESM, BC, Sportsman, Handicapped). Most of these reserved categories (SC certificate, BC certificate, Ex-Servicemen certificate, Sports Gradation Certificate from Director Sports Punjab, etc.) require certificates issued by Punjab-specific competent authorities, and candidates must also fulfill Punjab's Ex-Servicemen and BC/SC certification rules. In practical terms, this means the BFUHS Ophthalmic Officer 2026 recruitment is effectively open only to eligible Punjab-domiciled candidates who hold the relevant category certificates (SC, BC, EWS, ESM, Sportsperson, or Handicapped, issued by Punjab authorities), since there's no general open category to apply against as an outsider. Candidates from other states without Punjab-specific reserved category certificates will not be able to apply meaningfully in this cycle. . . Knowledge of Punjabi — Mandatory Requirement As per the terms and conditions, no candidate can be appointed to this post unless they have passed Matriculation with Punjabi as a compulsory/elective subject, or an equivalent examination in the Punjabi language. This applies to direct appointments. Exemptions exist for War Heroes discharged due to disability and their dependents (though wards of defence personnel appointed as bonafide Punjab residents must clear a Punjabi language test within 2 years of appointment). This further reinforces that this recruitment is designed primarily for Punjab-based, Punjabi-speaking candidates. Selection Process of BFUHS Ophthalmic Officer 2026 The selection for BFUHS Ophthalmic Officer 2026 is based on the following process: Written Examination — 100 Marks, conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. Qualifying Marks: Candidates must score a minimum of 33% marks to be declared eligible. Those scoring below 33% will be declared ineligible. Final Selection: Selection will be based on the inter-se-merit of the written test and marks of experience, subject to reservation rules prescribed by the Punjab Government. Tie-breaker: If candidates obtain equal marks, preference will be given as per Personnel Department Punjab letter no. PERS-PP-108/9/2025-3PP1-210 dated 26.06.2026. Merely qualifying the written test does not guarantee appointment — candidates must also clear Police Verification, criminal clearance, and other eligibility checks. No extra weightage is given for possessing higher qualifications than prescribed. After the written exam, counseling will be conducted and category-wise selection lists will be prepared and forwarded to the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Punjab. . . Application Fee CategoryFeeAll Categories except SC₹2,360/- (₹2,000 + 18% GST ₹360)SC Category₹1,180/- (₹1,000 + 18% GST ₹180) Fee is non-refundable.
